The compositional centre of the Tsarskoselsky ensemble is Catherine's Palace,
containing exquisite decorative objects, furniture, Russian and Western-European
paintings, unique collections of porcelain, amber, decorative bronze,
sculptures, etc. Nowadays, the collection of the museum in Tsarskoye Selo
numbers about 20000 items. In 2003, during the celebrations of the tercentenary
to St. Petersburg, the "Amber Room" was opened after its restoration (that
lasted for more than 20 years). It is one of the official gala halls in
Catherine's palace, entering which you feel like inside a big amber jewel box.
It is considered to be the 8th miracle of the world.
