Ancient town on the banks of Plesheevo Lake was founded in
1152 by Prince Yuri Dolgorukiy - the Moscow Prince - and it is only 5 years
younger than Moscow. The town is very small, but the great history and
outstanding names are connected with it. The outstanding Russian commander
Alexander Nevsky was born there. Peter the Great spent his childhood in
Pereslavl. Here, in 1688, young Peter the Great constructed a "funny fleet"
which became a prototype of the first Russian fleet on the Baltic sea.
